Charlie Parker once said “Music is your own experience, your own thoughts, your own wisdom. If you don’t live it, it won’t come out of your horn.” Over a year ago, after living in a cozy suburban town my whole life, I had a strong pull in my intuition to move to NYC. So, I did. Did I do it to just be reckless or for the hell of it? I used to say I did it for the experience. But it’s deeper than that.

I saw the vision; and SEEING the VISION alone makes the plan fall into place. It was challenging, but what’s life with no challenges and no mountaintops to reach? Are we not called to grow and evolve?

And no, I didn’t do it just for the hell of it. In fact, an ancient text told me the answer, I did it “Just for the heaven of it.”

If you are an artist looking for a safe space to share your work OR if you are a community organization/group seeking a space to outreach, then join the One Imagination network at Break the Silence.

We have undergone a very important transition for 2012. We are now being supported by Long Beach Parks and Recreation and Homeland Cultural Center! This means that we officially have a new home to host our events:

Please join us by bringing your poetry, music, or whatever creative art form you would like to share with the community.

Sign-ups for open mic begin at 6:30PM.
*Slots will be limited so please arrive early!* We prioritize first time performers so if you have never been on stage, we welcome you with an open heart. ♥

Performances runs from 7-9:30PM.

“Jaclyn Rose is a Filipina American Artist with a base both in Los Angeles, CA and New York City that has an eclectic gathering of sound that promotes a state of well-being and wholeness. Her style, ranging far and wide, falls under the select categories of Jazz, Funk, Soul, and Afro-beat, with a humble beginning based in Classical music. She both studied and graduated Cum Laude from California State University, Long Beach’s Bob Cole Conservatory of Music with a Bachelor’s degree of Music in Jazz Studies. She’s performed throughout Los Angeles and Orange County. She then embarked, only just a year ago, to New York City to venture into the east coast to learn, experience, and thrive. During her time there, she produced her 2011 CD compilation The Mix (Limited Edition) that featured her compilations and arrangements created and inspired by life in New York. At this point, Jaclyn has begun a new project known as “The Rose Movement,” in which she has chosen to promote a campaign focused on keeping dreams alive. She is currently working on a full-length album to be released in Spring 2012. Through the translation from voice to message, Jaclyn hopes to spread positivity and belief whilst inspiring her audience to get up and dance.”

Happy Monday everyone! This week I will performing at AnakBayan LA’s Benefit Show for the Typhoon Sendong Relief Funds in the Philippines this Thursday, February 9th at 7PM at Pizza Pi in Long Beach, CA!

Over 1,500 people have passed away and thousands have lost their homes. You support is greatly needed and appreciated :) The concert features many fantastic artists in the LA area! Come out for a great night for a great cause!

How To Feel Great

One thing that always motivates us to continue working on our goals is confidence and feeling great. Many times fear and emotions get in the way. We feel stuck in our fear. We don’t “feel” like we’re progressing on our goal. It could be because of stress, our circumstances, we’re hurt, or there’s just too much drama that gets in the way. And instead of channeling such negativity into a healthy outlet, we let it out on family and friends, we talk too much, we drink, smoke, fight or just mope around.

So what do we do? How can we get back to feeling great? We release the negative emotions. We release whatever is getting in the way of feeling great.

Lately, I’ve been working on a few personal goals. In doing so, I’ve realized what I view as my faults could be channeled into something positive. For instance, the other day I was feeling down. I felt trapped in the emotion of feeling down. So I took a dance class. The teacher said something simple but so powerful, “This dance is all about feeling.” So I put that feeling on the dance floor, and released it. I got home, and continued working on my goals with even more motivation.

So next time you’re feeling down or frustrated, RELEASE IT into a healthy outlet: write, dance, pray, meditate, go running, or hit a punching bag. EXPRESS yourself.

Then once you’ve released it, leave it.
And get back to work.

Thank you for asking! Oh boy, that’s a tough one. I feel like the highest goals I’ve achieved range from musical to life to everything! Graduating college, moving to NYC and all the opportunities I was blessed with, performing at the Ford Amphitheater, and every time I play with such stellar musicians is an achievement itself I feel.

My highest goal in the future? To travel all over the world performing! This is what I dream of the most.
